Issues: Oil and Gas

Governor Sean Parnell released a statement today on a positive announcement made by Brooks Range Petroleum (BRP) regarding 2016 oil production on the North Slope.

"I applaud the recent announcement by Brooks Range Petroleum to develop a new North Slope production facility representing 15,000 additional barrels of oil production in the Southern Miluveach Unit," said Governor Parnell. "Production of oil is expected to begin in 2016, creating approximately 250 construction jobs and 500 permanent direct and indirect jobs. This development by a smaller independent is even more proof that the passage of SB21, the More Alaska Production Act, is having an immediate and substantial impact as investors around the globe, once again, are turning their attention north, toward our great state."

This new development by BRP represents the first independently-owned, open-access production facility on the North Slope and is tied directly to the recent passage of SB21. Once in service, this facility represents an investment exceeding $500 million and will result in tens of millions of additional revenue dollars to the State.

"Alaskans can be proud that our diligence and hard-worn efforts have successfully attracted new companies who are excited about joining with us in making Alaska one of the strongest economies in our nation," said Governor Parnell.
